FROM PEANUT TO PISTACHIO: A NEW BET WITH A FUTURE VISION
Prodeman already has 300 hectares in production and plans to continue growing in the Argentine pistachio market.
True to its pioneering spirit and strategy of productive diversification, Prodeman is making steady progress in the development of pistachio in San Juan, a province that is consolidating as the new epicenter of this crop at the national level. With 500 hectares planted — of which 300 are already in production — the company is joining the rise of a fruit that has ceased to be a gourmet rarity to become a consumption trend in the country.
The company operates in the 9 de Julio department under a pressurized irrigation system, with harvest in March and collection at the source. Currently, it sells bulk pistachio in 10 and 12-kilo packages for third parties, while planning to expand its planted area and move towards its own processing.
"This step reflects our way of doing things: with time, conviction, and always looking at the long term. We come from transforming an industry and now we want to contribute to the growth of another," expressed Gustavo Cavigliasso, a member of Prodeman's Board of Directors.
The context is encouraging: Argentine domestic consumption is growing steadily, with an increasing presence of pistachio in ice cream shops, alfajores, artisanal pastries, and healthy snacks, while imports of shelled pistachio have increased by nearly 50% so far this year. Internationally, supply is limited due to climatic problems in key regions such as California and Asia, which supports firm prices and opens opportunities for new players.
In parallel, the agroecological conditions of San Juan — cold winters, hot summers, and dry climate — make this province an ideal place for the development of the crop. Additionally, there is a strategic advantage: the low water requirement of pistachio, which is key in contexts of water stress.
With this initiative, Prodeman reaffirms its commitment to sustainable production, innovation, and long-term value generation, adding a new chapter to its history as a family business with global projection.
