TRIALS IN CROPMIX: FIRST RESULTS
Various combinations of cover crops after peanuts were evaluated, focusing on improving soil health.
As part of the research that Prodeman promotes from its agricultural innovation center, the first results of the post-peanut cover crop trials conducted in Cropmix alongside Regenseeds were announced.
The trials are part of a strategy aimed at improving soil health and structure, promoting practices that prevent wind erosion, provide plant cover, and enhance biological nitrogen fixation. In this initial stage, different mixtures of species adapted to local conditions were analyzed, including rye, hairy vetch, crimson clover, and radish.
Technicians in charge of the initial monitoring highlighted the rapid coverage achieved by rye and radish, as well as the good establishment of hairy vetch. In contrast, crimson clover showed more limited development, possibly due to planting depth issues.
"Thinking of peanuts within a system also means generating learnings that help us conserve and improve our resources. These trials allow us to make evidence-based decisions to move towards a more regenerative production model," explained Carlos Faricelli, head of marketing and innovation in Primary Production.
These first results reinforce Prodeman's commitment to more conscious production, in line with the principles of sustainability and integrated agroecosystem management.
